Proverbs 4:20-23  “ My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings.  Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart;  For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.  Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.” Notice here the heart sets the boundaries of our lives, and the previous scriptures identify the primary evidence of the heart’s position, by the words we speak.  Of course, as believers, we should be well aware that the guidance system of our course in life is controlled by a very small member of our body, namely the tongue.  James, chapter 3, describes it as being similar to a bit in a horse’s mouth.  This thousand pound creature is controlled by a very small device that applies pressure to its mouth. Likewise the largest ship also takes a path directed by something very small, a rudder, even in a violent storm.   When we know this, we will pay close attention to allowing our hearts to be filled with faith from the word of God, because its results are best for us.  Remember our Savior Himself said, “for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks…..”Think about it like this,  we can apply pressure to the storms of life with our words.  So, just  as a  master gardener tends his crop, so we must guard the contents of our hearts to produce a harvest of sound, faith-filled words to keep our lives on a proper course.
