Lately, I’ve been so aware of the abiding presence of the Lord in my life, and I  am so thankful for the promise He made to us when He said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5  One of the eight compound names of God in the Old Testament is Jehovah-Shammah, meaning “God is there or ever-present.” Just imagine for a moment the feelings Jacob must have had as he fled from his home after deceiving his father Isaac.  He had (with the help of his mom) tricked his dad   and the blessing which belonged to his brother Esau was pronounced on him.  After this event, fear of the unknown as well as fear for his life were most likely “ever-present” or “there with him.”  And the Lord spoke to him in a dream and said, “ Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.”  Jacob left that place of despair because of the Heavenly Father’s word that came to him.  Did he deserve this?  No, but by grace (undeserved favor) we are saved, healed, delivered, set free, and made whole….. strictly grace! Let us realize afresh, that Jesus is God with us!  As we praise Him as Emmanuel, we are reminded that He left Heaven to bring His kingdom to us and set up His throne in the hearts of men.  Let’s leave our places of despair and rejoice that His light has come and shines in each of us.
